Frequently Asked Questions

Every Thing You Needed To Know about Rapid Gaskets and Our services

General Information
What does Rapid Gaskets specialise in?
We specialise in manufacturing custom, one-off gaskets and seals. Whether you need a single replacement gasket for a vintage engine or a small run for a prototype, we focus on quick turnaround and precision cutting without the high minimum order quantities required by larger manufacturers.
 Where are you located?
We are a locally owned and operated business based in Darwin, Northern Territory. We proudly service the local Darwin and Palmerston regions, but we also ship our products to customers interstate across Australia.
Do you have a minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
No! One of our key advantages is that we cater specifically to "one-off" requirements. You can order a single gasket or hundreds, depending on your needs.
What materials can you cut gaskets from?
We work with a wide range of industrial-grade materials including cork rubber, nitrile, neoprene, EVA, silicone, fibre sheets, and specialised high-temperature composites. If you’re unsure which material suits your application, we can recommend the best option based on temperature, pressure, chemical exposure, and sealing requirements.
Services & Custom Manufacturing
I have an old, broken gasket. Can you reproduce it?
Yes, absolutely. If you can bring in or send us the old gasket (even if it's in pieces), we can typically scan, measure, and reproduce it using our stock materials. We recommend taping the pieces together on a piece of cardboard if possible before bringing it in.
Do I need to provide a CAD drawing?

While a CAD drawing (DXF, DWG) is helpful and speeds up the process, it is not strictly necessary. We can work from:

  • The original physical part (flange, cover, etc.)

  • The old gasket

  • A hand-drawn sketch with precise measurements

  • A cardboard template

How fast can you make a gasket?
As our name suggests, we aim for speed. For materials in stock, we can often produce custom gaskets within 24–48 hours. For urgent "breakdown" situations in the Darwin/Palmerston area, please call us immediately to see if we can offer same-day service.
Can you help if I’m not sure what material or thickness I need?
Yes — that’s a big part of what we do. If you’re unsure which material suits your application, we can assess factors like temperature, pressure, chemicals, fuel or oil exposure, and compression requirements. From there, we’ll recommend the right material and thickness to ensure a proper seal and long service life. You don’t need to be an expert — we’ll guide you through the options.
Materials
What materials do you keep in stock?

We maintain a comprehensive stock of common gasket materials suitable for various industries (automotive, marine, industrial, plumbing). Our stock typically includes:

  • Rubbers: Neoprene, Nitrile (fuel/oil resistant), EPDM (weather/water resistant), and Silicone.

  • Fibre & Compressed Sheet: Non-asbestos fibre (CNAF) for high-temperature and pressure applications.

  • Cork: Rubberised cork for automotive sumps and covers.

  • Specialty: PTFE (Teflon) and Graphite sheets.

Can you cut gaskets from material I provide?

Yes, provided the material is suitable for our cutting machinery. Please contact us first to discuss the material type and thickness you intend to supply.

I’m not sure which material I need. Can you help?

Definitely. If you tell us the application (e.g., fuel, water, high heat, chemical exposure) and the operating environment, our team can recommend the most suitable material from our stock.

Do you offer different material thicknesses?
Yes. Most of our materials are available in multiple thicknesses — commonly ranging from 0.5 mm up to 10 mm depending on the material type. Certain high-temperature or specialty sheets may have more limited ranges. If you’re unsure what thickness your application requires, we can help you choose the correct option based on sealing pressure, flange condition, and operating environment.
Ordering & Shipping
How do I request a quote?

The best way to get a quote is to email us at [Insert Email] or use the contact form on our website. Please include:

  • Material type and thickness (if known).

  • Dimensions or a drawing of the gasket.

  • Quantity required.

  • Your location (for shipping estimates).

Do you deliver to Palmerston and rural areas?

Yes, we service the greater Darwin region including Palmerston and rural areas. We can arrange local couriers or you can collect directly from our Darwin workshop.

 Do you ship interstate?

Yes, we service customers all over Australia. Since gaskets are often lightweight and flat, they can usually be shipped cost-effectively via Express Post or courier to ensure they reach you quickly.

How should I package my old gasket if I'm mailing it to you for copying?
Please place the gasket flat between two pieces of stiff cardboard to prevent it from snapping or deforming during transit. Trace the outline on the cardboard as a backup reference.
